[/h][h=1]Range Hood 4.2amps and Disposal 5amps on 15 amp circuit? Safe or bad practice ? [/h][h=1]Our electrician was out here today to run new line to 15 dedicated circuit for range hood ( Valore Lateral 36" Island Range Hood, 4.2 amps, 600 cfm, from costco)[/h]and also a line for disposal which is 5amps insinkerator. The disposal was on same circuit as lights and was making them flash/disco ball when it was flipped on.

I am not the homeowner, my SO is. He first asked the Electrician to extend the existing 60 year romex wire that was already in place for an air king ceiling vent.

[h=1]Since the contractors will be installing the new Hood Vent over the Island, SO wanted the wiring moved a foot or so. [/h][FONT=&quot]Yes, he was asking the Electrician to add on new wire to the romex. I said nothing and the Electrican explained that no that wouldn't work.
[h=1]Phew. Electrician suggested running two dedicated circuits for disposal and hood. That's why I wanted all along. But then SO suggested just running one new 15 amp circuit for range hood and disposal. Electrician agreed that would be okay.
To me it seems to not meet standards in NEC, even if it's okay enough.
:slaphead:
I can't tell if the hood vent is corded or simply has wires to connect. The instruction manual isn't very clear.....
Thoughts ?
