I guess this is more a rant on the government allowing unlicensed workers to perform work.
As with most people on this forum I am sure you have worked your butt off like I have to gain the skills needed to be an electrican or electrical contractor. I used to do side work myself on a small scale without the proper credentials. Guilty as charged, but I have yet to meet someone who hasn't.
I am sure what I am about to whine about is 100% legal but get with it now. Now that I have worked towards becoming an EC it seems that the Federal Government is allowing any Joe with a pair of wire strippers to wire their projects. As far as I know they are not required to carry an administrators license or their workers be qualified within the state they are working. I know for a fact that one particular "contractor" got some work with the Coast Guard and was requesting their laborers to do the work of an electrician. The laborer I speak of kept bugging me about how he needed "a 220 wire" ran to his shop. I told him they only make 110 wire now and he left me alone. Surely not the guy I want working for me. I think that all of us that have invested any amount of time in becoming licensed in our trade, deserve to have a fair shot at Federal projects. A fair shot to me is that ALL persons are licensed within the trade they perform. When some fly by night contractor from Idaho comes in and doesn't play to what I consider to be fair rules for the trade, it really drives the local market down. Sure the government has people that oversee their projects, but more than half I have delt with don't know jack about the NEC or trade techniques maiking it worse off for themselves.
Why I even posted this I don't know. Guess it might be the bidding blues sinkin' in and I have more time to spend now on Mike Holt Forums now that I won't be wasting anymore time bidding on any Federal work.
