Working on a remodel of a motel in town here... we're basically going from room to room relocating some light fixtures and adding some dimmer switches and such. The carpenters are going ahead of us cutting big squares out of the wall so we can rough in our fixture boxes and wiring.

I walked into one room and found this:

The box was buried in the wall and he ran his skilsaw right through it. Fortunately he was smart enough to have us turn the circuit off beforehand. I don't know who installed this thing (probably the hotel maintenance crew) but this is not good. I hope there's none elsewhere.

Ye Gods! How deep are the carpenters setting their saws? 4"?????

If the wall is 5/8" thick, then they should set their saws to 3/4" and no more. Keep this up, and they'll hit water, drain and sprinkler lines........

The walls have 3 layers of 5/8" sheetrock plus a layer of sound-damping board. They're the shared walls between rooms.

I have no idea why there's so much sheetrock piled on there.
