Don't want to name names - but I purchased a new series Exit/Emergency lights made by a prominent manufacturer of lighting. I've got to tell you, I was very dissatisfied with the design and manufacturing quality. I will be carrying the complaint to the supplier, and also writing the company a letter.

One of the biggest issues was with the ground screw provided. You know you're probably off to a challenge, when the ground screw is packaged separately from the mounting bracket. The thread appeared to be similar to the thread on a sheet metal screw, and after trying getting three in to separate units - I gave up and got my drill and tap. You know what this did to my labor estimate. Then I proceed to put up the bracket, and realize after sizing up the mounting bracket and the spacing on the two screws that will eventually hold the Exit light housing, that the mounting screws will run in to the plastic box (a round old work box made by a prominent manufacturer of electrical boxes).

Now to top it all off, two of the six (6) exit lights and one of the four emergency light packs have issues. One exit only half the LEDs light up, and on the other - the battery backed up side doesn't light up. On the emergency light pack - the unit doesn't operate when you hit the test button.

Well, they're all sitting in the truck and heading back to the supply house. Wonder if anyone else has used any of this recently released series. Again, not naming names, anyone of you had any similar experieneces?

No, I haven't experienced this recently. Exit lights are much easier to deal with today than they were 20 years ago when I started in the trade.
But why not "name names"? Let us know what they are so we can avoid this problem. Take one for the team.

I have had this problem and what I found was the little switch inside the unit that is activated by the plastic on the outside had slid out of place. It just slides into a groove and had moved. I pushed it in place and everything was OK.

Sometimes it seems to me that products are just half way thrown together. We had some recessed cans on one job that WE had to rewire just about every one of them. It was like they just picked a wire & connected.
