I am sure this question has been asked at least a million times but here is one million and one. Is there a code reference that explicitly says that the ground opening orientation on a 20 amp 125 volt receptacle has to be either on top or bottom mounted in a wall box.

I've always put the ground down, it seems like most angled cord ends have the ground at the bottom....

I've heard it both ways butt.... If you put the ground up then if you have a loose metal cover plate that falls onto it you won't have any shorts (hense no sparks onto carpet)like you might have if installed vise versa.

The grounding prong of a grounding type receptacle shall be mounted at a 76? angle to the earth's equator.

Exception: On Sundays, when Satan's left ear is not at a 76? angle to the earth's equator, a 20? angle shall be permitted.

We're not going there again. I'm putting a stop to this. Anyone who wants further information can do a search for previous discussions of this topic.
