Receptacle in masonry fireplace

Could someone explain the code requirements for installing a receptacle in a masonry fireplace wall? This is for a fan/blower for a gas insert. I would like to do a recessed box rather than surface mount. Can I run Romex through a brick or cinder block wall and along a concrete floor underneath the sheetrock? There are no studs in the wall, it is cinderblock covered with plywood and sheetrock on top of the ply. Is NM 14/2 OK or is a special wire needed?

Thanks,
Uncle Bob

Re: Receptacle in masonry fireplace

Bob, you need to be talking with your electrician about this. We will not tell you how to do it or the material that would be used, that is up to your electrician. However, it can be done as long as the location is not too close to the firebox where the heat could damage the installation. :D
