What requirements other than being a GFCI outlet does an outlet in a toilet have to meet? Is there a minimum distance to a water source? Is there a minimum height from the floor?

Re: Receptacle location in bathroom

I try to keep my receptacle out of the toilet. There is no no minimum height (some folks like them below counter top) as long as the recep is located on the wall - but the recep does have to be within 36" of the outside edge of EACH basin (so that does impose some sort of height restriction).

This information is directly from an NFPA training seminar I took one week ago, given by NFPA personell. This was a specific question asked in the class.

I once wired a porta-pottie. I refused to wire the downstairs portion :D

While we're on the subject, at the last house I wired, the homeowner requested a receptacle behind the commode to plug in his heated toilet seat. Can you imagine if it somehow became energized while he was taking care of business ??
