I have been searching the NEC (2005) attempting to locate the article that states the requirement of installing receptacles with the grounding connector on top of the grounded/hot leg connectors. As a first year apprentice, I have received various, conflicting, information regarding this question.

You won't find a requirement in the NEC.

You will find volumes on this topic here:
[Ground up or down?]

I find it hard to believe this question keeps comming up here. I havn't been here long and have seen this question numerous times. Unless it is spec on the plans then it matters not which way you install them sometimes it makes sence to put them one way or the other for the plug on an appliance. I had a homeowner ask me to go through their house and change them all once to make the all grounding point up. and paid good money for it too.

There is not a code on ground up or ground down, but I'm a ground up man all the way.I've been putting them up for 15 years and I've found that cords stay in receptacle's better.

This not a code issue. There have been proposals in each of the last 4 or 5 code cycles to require that the ground be up, but they have all been rejected.
I am closing this thread as we have discussed this a number of times. There will never be a resolution unless the NEC changes.
