WHERE I WANT TO PUT OUTLETS AROUND MY POOL IS ABOUT 7-8 FEET AWAY FROM POOL WATER BUT I THINK CODE IS 10 FEET AWAY. DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY ADVICE ON HOW I CAN GET AROUND THIS AND STILL PASS INSPECTION. I AM GOING TO USE PVC CONDUIT AND PVC RECEPTACLE BOXES MOUNTED ON TREATED 4X4'S AND GFCI OUTLETS. SOMEONE TOLD ME THAT I COULD TURN THE BOXES AWAY FROM THE POOL AND THAT WOULD PASS. IS THIS TRUE AND ARE THERE ANY OTHER ALTERNATIVES???

IF ANYONE CAN HELP THANKS!!!

MAV, BEING THAT THIS IS A POOL, I WOULD SUGGEST HAVING A LICENSED ELETRICIAN DO IT. I WOULD SLEEP BETTER AND SO SHOULD YOU. WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO "GET AROUND" ANYTHING TO GET THROUGH AN INSPECTION? WHY ARE WE YELLING?

Re: receptacles around inground pools?

HEY ROGER....AN ELECTRICAN WAS MY ORIGINAL ROUTE BUT WHEN YOU CALL 10 ELECTRICANS, 4 OF THEM CALL YOU BACK, 1 OF THOSE TELL YOU THEY DON'T WANT TO DO THE JOB, THE 3 REMAINING SAY THEY WILL BE OUT TO GIVE YOU AN ESTIMATE, 2 ACTUALLY SHOW UP AND SAY THEY'LL CALL BACK IN AN HOUR WITH A FIGURE.....AND THEN THEY DON'T. WHAT I'M LEFT WITH IS NO ONE WANTS TO DO THE WORK SO I HAVE TO DO IT MYSELF. AS FAR AS TRYING TO DO SOMETHING I'M NOT SUPPOSED TO THATS NOT WHAT I MEANT. IF I WAS TRYING TO GET AWAY WITH SOMETHING I WOULD NOT HAVE INCLUDED AN INSPECTOR IN MY QUESTION. IT SEEMS LIKE MOST PEOPLE HERE ARE ELECTRICANS OR INSPECTORS HENCE WHY I ASKED THE QUESTION TO FIND A WAY TO DO IT LEGALLY. PLEASE HELP!!!
THANKS EVERYONE!!!

Re: receptacles around inground pools?

I can understand the frustration of not being able to get an estimate or a contractor to do the work......Bottom line is 7 - 8 ft from the pool is not acceptable at all,who ever told you that by facing them away from the pool is acceptable doesn`t know the NEC at all!!!!!!!!10 ft. min. is just that 10 ft.Especially when a pool is involved
safety is the primary concern and that is why the NEC has min. distances ......

The only outlet that may be within 10 feet of the pool is the outlet for the pump. This must be at least 5 feet from the pool, and if within 10 feet then the cord connection must be a twist lock type, with an in-use cover. If the pump outlet is at least ten feet from the pool then the connection may be a standard plug. All other outlets (and code calls for at least one) must be at least ten feet from the pool.

Re: receptacles around inground pools?

THANK YOU FOR THE INPUT A.WAYNE3 & RACRAFT!! BELIEVE IT OR NOT I WAS AN ELECTRICIAN THAT TOLD ME THAT ABOUT TURNING THE BOXES AWAY.....I GUESS HE EITHER KNOWS THE INSPECTOR OR HE DOESN'T GET HIS WORK INSPECTED. I'M GLAD YOU WERE SO STRAIGHT FORWARD BECAUSE YOU NEVER KNOW HOW MUCH FLEXIBLITY YOU HAVE. MATTER OF FACT THE PLUMBING WORK FOR THE POOL WAS INSPECTED FROM ABOUT 100FT AWAY WHILE TALKING TO THE CO-0WNER OF THE POOL COMPANY. IT SEEMS TO ME TO DO A GOOD INSPECTION THAT YOU ACTUALLY HAVE TO LOOK AT THE WORK?!?! I JUST HOPE THAT THE INSPECTOR THAT CHECKS OVER MY WORK DOES A BETTER JOB. THAT'S WHY I'M ASKING QUESTIONS BEFORE HAND....SO I DON'T HAVE TO REDO THE WORK. SPEAKING OF A QUESTION....DOES THE JUNCTION BOX FOR THE UNDERWATER POOL LIGHT HAVE TO BE 10 FEET AWAY?

THANKS AGAIN GUYS!!!
