There is no article in the NEC that asks for receptacles in electrical rooms, but I think is a good practice to include at least one, here is the question, if we decide to put the receptacles, they need to be GFCI per code?

In general no gfci would be required in an electric room however, it seems like it would be a good place for one especially if the room is on a slab. The NEC does not require GFCI specifically for an electric room as the others have mentioned

I should mention that the NEC does require a receptacle in an electric room in the 2014 NEC but it does not have to be GFCI protected

210.64 Electrical Service Areas. At least one 125-volt,
single-phase, 15- or 20-ampere-rated receptacle outlet shall
be installed within 15 m (50 ft) of the electrical service
equipment.
Exception: The receptacle outlet shall not be required to be
installed in one-and two-family dwellings.

Because of nuisance tripping perhaps........
