Greetings all !

I know that this question has come up before, so please bear with me.

Are electrical receptacles "required" in a business office ?......I have
a newly created small office space without any wall receptacles.

Which Article or Articles "require" receptacles in a B Occ. Group setting ?
I am using the `14 NEC.

Thank you !

While no requirements, except as noted by Augie, are you planning on having devices requiring power in this office in the future? If you don't place the receptacles now, you run into potential violations in the future with 2017 NEC 400.12 (unsure of old number for previous versions of NEC): Refer to this thread: http://forums.mikeholt.com/showthread.php?t=182888

If you would happen to have show windows there is requirements there. There is also 210.64 requiring one near the service equipment, there are cases where you don't have service equipment though.

Then there can be cord and plug connected equipment that is fastened in place or otherwise has a designated location - and likely will be required to have a receptacle within 6 (?) feet of that location.

Chances are the owner/user will require some receptacles somewhere for general use.:happyyes:

Thanks for the input !.......Yes, the occupants of this particular office space
DO plan to have things \ stuff that run on electrical power.

My question mainly had to do with what is the actual requirement for
actually installing them.......You have confirmed my initial thoughts in that
while none are actually required [ by Code ], there should be some installed
for functionality of the space.

Thanks again !

And if you have a conference room some receptacles are require for that (2017 NEC). Other than as mentioned above no receptacles are required. But the ones you installed are counted at 180V per strap. For a dwelling unit the receptacles are included in the 3 VA/Sq ft calculation, as many as desired.
We have a similar required for light switches, the NEC does not require them (non dwelling)

Yes most occupants find that a few receptacles are required, and light switches are handy

This is why I've never figured out why people think that commercial electrical is so much more difficult than residential. There are very few things that are required in commercial.

Required by NEC minimum safety requirements and required by tenants to utilize the space comfortably and effectively are two different things.

Difficult? None of it is difficult, some projects just take less expertise, time, and less costly materials than others.

Why, yes they are.

But you might need to know how to bend or thread pipe, and for some reason raceways aren't allowed in residential:happyno:

For receptacles I agree with you. Commercial lighting in CA is another matter. :)
