I would appreciate the opinion of others on this. House (that I am wiring) will have receptacles in in the soffit (overhang). Would flip lips on the weather resistant rated receptacles meet code, or would in-use covers be required?
Thanks

I would say in use covers, inspector would call that wet location all day long.
Plus in use cover would help hold the Christmas lights plug in......

If called out as a wet location then I would use those Arlington ones that are recessed and look fairly flush.

I agree w/ Infinity- it's a damp loc per the NEC and to add to that point:

Here are a couple of excerpts from 406.9 in the 2014:

A)-Damp locations. "A receptacle installed outdoors in a location protected from the weather or in other damp locations shall have an enclosure for the receptacle that is weatherproof when the receptacle is covered (attachment plug cap not inserted and receptacle covers closed)."

AND:

"A receptacle shall be considered to be a location protected from the weather where located under roofed open porches, canopies, marquees, and the like, and will not be subjected to beating rain or water runoff."- Sure sounds like a soffit is covered.:) Of course, if it is seen differently by ahj, its a different story.
