Re: Recepticals above baseboard heater

This is not a requirment of the NEC unless the manufacture requires it. See the FPN of 210.52

210.52 Dwelling Unit Receptacle Outlets.
This section provides requirements for 125-volt, 15- and 20-ampere receptacle outlets. Receptacle outlets required by this section shall be in addition to any receptacle that is part of a luminaire (lighting fixture) or appliance, located within cabinets or cupboards, or located more than 1.7 m (5? ft) above the floor.
Permanently installed electric baseboard heaters equipped with factory-installed receptacle outlets or outlets provided as a separate assembly by the manufacturer shall be permitted as the required outlet or outlets for the wall space utilized by such permanently installed heaters. Such receptacle outlets shall not be connected to the heater circuits.

FPN: Listed baseboard heaters include instructions that may not permit their installation below receptacle outlets.

IMHO, using a person's e-mail address to post an answer directly to him will deprive everyone else of the information which is what this forum is about. I hope people do not respond to individual requests for information and just use e-mail addresses for sending personal correspondence.

Re: Recepticals above baseboard heater

I wonder if an appliance cord would be subjected to excessive ambient temperature were it plugged into a receptacle just above a baseboard heater or other heat source such as a stovetop. Is there a responsibility to consider this when wiring a home or only to meet the requirements of the code up to the receptacle?

Re: Recepticals above baseboard heater

The listing has the following from the 2003 UL White Book, the bolding is mine:

Electrical cords, drapes, and other furnishings should be kept away from baseboard heaters. To reduce the likelihood of cords contacting the heater, the heater is not to be located beneath electrical receptacles. Listings of receptacle accessories for use with an individual manufacturer's baseboard heaters are included under the category "Baseboard Heater Accessories" (KLQZ).

Since these are the listing requirements, take a look at websparky's post. :D
