Does the NEC have a recommended height installation for room recepticles? Can they be installed in a 6" baseboard (2" off the floor)?

Re: Recepticle placement

we've often installed recept in baseboard most frequently in custom homes... let the millwork crew or the carpenter do the cutting of the baseboard :) just check your ada compliance if applicable

Re: Recepticle placement

Not to long ago i did a home for the Steinbrenner family(The Yankees) and the architect speced all receptacles to be in the baseboards. So I called the Ahj and asked him to come look and see what we had in mind ,we roughed the circuits with no receptacle boxes in place but I made sure that there was enough wire there when trimmed out.I left these large loops in the walls and stubbed the wire where I wanted the receptacle to be cut in the base.he was fine with the rough and we trimmed out and the trim carpenters made all the cuts.I was worried about aff heights and as it turned out it all worked out great. But in response to your question as long as you don`t go above the max. height for receptacles to be considered wall spacing receptacles it is fine to place them in the baseboards

I install a lot of receptacle outlets in the baseboard. I fur the plate to get the required center line and then set the box and let the carpenters cut the boxes out when they install the baseboard. I think it gives a clean look.

It probably is a 'clean look' in an empty room but if being used for lamps behind a coffee table the cords would be seen by all instead of up and somewhat hidden under the table.Just a thought!
