Recepticles protected by GFCI

How many recepticles are allowed to be protected by a GFCI recepticle? I have been told 2. Is this correct, and where would I find it in the code book?

It would be determined by the manufacturer. With the excepton of 110.3(B) there is no maximum per the NEC.
