Reception location above a baseboard

Thanks. How come there's no location section for receptacles in the NEC index? I notice people have questions on above ceiling mounted receptacles too. I would figure they would put a section or a paragraph dedicated to accepted locations.

You will find that some electric baseboard heat manufacturers, as part of their installation instructions, prohibit receptacles above some heaters. Some inspectors would view such an install to be a violation of 110.3(B)..
I am not aware of any such requirements with a hot water baseboard, but it might be worth a look at the manufacture requirements.

See the FPN at 210.52 ('08 Code)

Thanks for location of the FPN. The paragraph above it talks about electric baseboards, so it looks like the code doesn't specifically address hot water baseboards. But I would have to check the manufacturer's installation instructions to comply with 110.3(B).

I have never seen a requirement for hot water baseboard just Electric. I got turned down on this a few months ago and told the inspector that it is electric heaters not hot water. He finally agreed.

As Augie pointed out, it is not specically prohibited but rather a listing issue. As a practical matter though, as I recall, all the garden variety baseboard heaters I have seen won't allow a recep above. If you get into some high end heaters with a lower surface temperature it may be OK.
