Had someone say the other day that recessed cans under 2008 code had to be air-tight to be installed in attic space. I know i/c rated for sure just never air- tight. Has anyone else heard or know of this code change in 2008.

Some states have adopted energy codes that require this. I believe the state of Washington is one of them. It is not a NEC issue.

This is a building code issue. I believe it has to do with energy efficiency. I don't remember the building code section that requires it though.
