It's pretty well known health codes generally require a lens on fixtures in food service areas. We are migrating to specifying more and more recessed LED fixtures for clients...using them in just about every public area possible. The project I am working on right now has a concession stand so the food service area is in public view. The client prefers to not have the lens since they get dirty and collect bugs. Usually I can just tell them they can't serve food without the lens, but now with LED, there is no bulb to break. I don't see the point of having the lens anymore. I was wondering if anyone had experience working with local health departments on this issue and what their thoughts are.
