How many recessed lights do you put on a 15 amp circuit I normally put anywhere from 8 to 10. I figured it base on an 85 watt bulb. I went to work for a guy who put 15 on a circuit. I ask about overloading the circuit and he said all of the lights are not on the same time, but what happens if they are. Is he right or am I wrong.

Im sorry what I meant to say is 15 recessed lights too many on a 15 amp circuit. Assuming an 85 watt bulb is use.

"Can't" is a powerful word.
I can over load any circuit I want...watch me

People over load circuits all the time...some times unintentionally, some times because of ignorance...like the fellow in the OP's post.

The circuit is based on the largest wattage lamps that can fit that fixture.

I, generally, use 65W lamps...but base the circuit on the max watt lamp for the fixture.

Not exactly the way I read it, I go by the trim i'm suppling with the recess, not that 250w heat lamp that will also fit in the can too. ;)

IMO the 'fixture' is a combination of both the rough and trim.

So yes I agree with you but Celtic was right as well.

Fluorescent is a beautiful thing.

So are 277 volt circuits.

Off the top of my head I think on that job I could have put around 90 on a circuit and still be under 16 amps.
