load center is recessed in exterior 2x4 wall is there somewhere in the code that prohibits this I can't seem to find it anywhere thanks

???
They make recessed load center, mostly what you see in houses. Am I miss understanding what you mean

I did not see the exterior part.
Still does not change that they make 3r panels that can be recessed.

It is not exactly prohibited but at same time you can't use a typical indoor loadcenter with it's typical flush cover for an outdoor application those covers are not rated for such a location.

I guess he did not make it clear if it is accessible from interior or exterior side of the wall, I was assuming exterior in my previous reply

sorry for not being clear load center faces the interior of a cottage it is a summer cottage with no heat built in the 1950s someone has changed the wiring to romex at some time was wondering if the 1 1/2 " clearance from the sheathing would be in the code like a roof as someday it will need to be resided thanks

Welcome to the forum.

Yes, a panel within an exterior wall is a typical installation.

Be sure to keep the wires away from the outside wall.

No clearance from sheathing rules other than 1-1/4" at the framing members, however is still good design practice to keep away from sheathing for various reasons such as siding attachment. Some ding dong might still come along and use a 3 inch long nail when 1-1/4 or less would been fine though. Can't idiot proof everything, better idiots eventually emerge.
