True but not in the scope of job description to make National testing lab decisions.
IKEA had a 13w fluorescent resi bathroom light that called for 105C wire.
I asked UL about this wire for this light.

They wanted me to investigate. I should have asked him if he was offering me a job.

How does the NEC define "flush mount"?
I don't know that it does. One thing that seems to fly past people is the word "mount"

If it mounts TO the surface, it's surface "mount"

If it mounts to a junction box thats FLUSH with the surface, it's flush "mount"

The fixture could stick down from the ceiling 2 feet. But unless it's actually mounted TO the surface, it's not surface "mount"

Chabdeliers are flush "mount"

did the IKEA have a NRTL listing? that's all the investigation needed.

This 105C wire which UL told me is only for commercial applications may somehow have made sense for this resi product?

Retailers can sell products that are not independently tested? Should he have referred me to the FTC?

I sure am late to this party. :(

I have found luminaires sold to contractors without a NRTL listing - most coming from Europe with the EU label(not a standard for safety)
