Would I be creating a code violation by installing cut in recessed can housings in a drywall ceiling then having 1/2” drywall installed over them ?

It’s easier and far less messy( attic has 18” of loose fill insulation)to do it this way than to wait once it’s all finished.

Plus if I find an obstruction I’d rather find it now where it can be covered over anyway.

Thanks

I’m not questioning the accessibility of the J box but rather the 1/2” space between the drywall and the can housing.

J box is accessible through an attic access.

How would you find the opening to cut out the new drywall?
I suppose the same way drywallers find the cans on new construction, poke and zip!

I don't know how well the trims will fit. Depends on the type of trim.
