recessed track lighting

I have installed plenty of track lighting in the past, but never recessed track lighting. The track fits into a channel. The channel is recessed into the ceiling. Gives a semi flush look.

For those who have installed it before, is it even practical to consider installing it in an existing sheetrock ceiling?

Just seems like alot of extra work for little or no advantage.

I've installed some in high end stores. Actually looks rather nice when it's finished especially in areas where there are no heads installed and the track is there for retail changes in the future.

It can be done but it may take alot of planning. It cannot got across the joists unless you can legally notch the joist. Here is a link to Halo's recessed track. You need 1 -11/32" deep for the system.

It's not a stock item in the wholesale houses that I use and has to be special ordered and does take some time to get.
