I recently installed a 12x12x6 nema 3 surface mount box in a wall. I was using it to tap a service for a separate service for electrical vehicle charging. I installed it inside the wall with screws through the inside wall of the bduox to the stud. 4" of the box were inside the wall with 2" on the outside of the box so I could run a conduit out of it on the wall. I have a inspector that is failing it because he says I am using it in a way it is not listed for. I have talked to the manufacture and the told me it was okay as long as the conduits had sealing washers. I have searched the code to see if it says I can or can't install a box this way but I haven't found anything. What do you guys think? Ideas would be appreciated. Thanks
