Seems to be a popular topic today....

I've got a new office building project under construction, owner today asked if I could quote providing them with EV charging.

Any recommendations for an outdoor pedestal w/ access control of some sorts? Does not need to be networked. Would like dual-chargers to split between parking spaces.

My service voltage is 208Y/120v 3-phase.

I have no first hand experience, but I have been doing quite a bit of research on EVSEs because I have an electric car on order.
Chargepoint seems to be favored for public installations. Not sure if they have a dual unit like you describe.

ok. I sent an email through their website to contact me.

open to any suggestions that you've had experience with.

Eaton has card readers on theirs, many others have cellular built in, you just log into an app to activate.

card reader might be ideal... this office is right off the interstate. I think they're going to need access control for sure.

eaton was the first place I went looking for one and didn't find it on their website. just googled eaton ev charger and it came right up. of course.

I was working with one manufacture, can’t remember who it was, they were going to put loop feed lugs in the pedestal just like an RV pedestal, so one large feed could be brought out, and catch several chargers. Don’t know if it caught on. Haven’t done a charging station in a couple of years.

We have a client that asked for the same thing, Siemens offers a pedestal that can hold (2) chargers and has spring retracting arms that help hold the cords at bay. Each one requires 40amp single phase 240, we hooked it up 40amp 208 off a 3-phase system and have had no issues.

Have you installed the Eaton, or have seen it stateside?

My supplier isn't having any luck with Eaton reps on providing us with any sort of information. I sent some part numbers that I found on their site when I googled "eaton ev charger", but didn't realize I was on a site for Norway, and none of those numbers came up with anything here. They're still working on it though.

I did get a quote from ChargePoint; $10k for a dual charge station. I'm going to get one more competitive quote and leave it alone; once I add sales tax, O&P, and then the actual installation, this is going to be pushing $20k, and I know they're not going to spend that.

This job is getting silly. We haven't even started and I've already written 10 change order adds & deducts; owner keeps looking to cut costs, every time I find something to give up, he finds something to add back in. I sent them an add today for $22k they're pooping bricks over I'm sure. They asked if I could deduct the generator the plans called for; sure, $23k, now what's going to run your emergency lighting panel? Engineer called and said, "just quote them two 1600kva lighting inverters." Anyone have a guess of what two of those cost? I'll tell you, its $22k. My eyes rolled completely out the back of my head.

Installed a bunch of them years ago, a lot of them for BOA, and the government. Mostly in Tennessee and North Carolina. (The plant was outside Asheville) Did a bunch of residential GE for General Motors. They apparently gave a bunch of hybrid EV’s to management. Been quite a while back. We are back to installing them on the left coast, and repairing them on the east coast. But it’s been probably 4-5 years ago since we installed them en mass.

Yep, they are still around. They have a map that shows where the chargers are, and whether they are in use. Looked like less than 1% is in use right now nationwide.
