I am buying a phase converter for a 480-v, 3-phase, 5-hp refrigerated storage container. I have one person recommending an inverter type converter and another person recommending a rotary type converter. Does anyone have any experience with converters being used for refrigeration equipment with microprocessors?

Thank you,

If you need a phase converter for a load that needs to see a more correct 3 phase supply I would suggest:

Rotary type no doubt.

I'm not sure what you mean by "inverter type". Stay away from static phase converters though.

I probably did not use the correct terminology. The type of converter that manufacturers the third phase by converting AC power into DC which in turn creates a sinewave out of DC. Like frequency drives I believe. Is it PWM pulse width modulation?

Thanks,
