Re: Recpt height required above a mobile work bench.

How do you get a receptacle in 1/2" EMT? :p

There is very little regarding receptacle locations in commercial settings, and this isn't covered.

George, when you become a diesel mechanic/welder/refrigeration tech./electrician you will better understand how a receptacle can be mounted in 1/2" EMT. Until then I would suggest you study the basic principles of alchemy or read Harry Potter. It's obvious that the receptacle in question would a least need to be higher than the work bench, to be above it.

Boy, I sure would like to see a receptacle mounted in 1/2" EMT.
:p

The NEC only talks about receptacles mounted on the work surface - you don't want to get a cup of coffee dumped in the thing. Put it above the work surface wherever you want.

My bad on the type O. It's in a 2*3*2 work box, after asking the inspector he suggested to use the 12in MIN above countertop. but thanks for your help anyway.

Re: Recpt height required above a mobile work bench.

It sounds like the Inspector merely "suggested" a 12 inch minimum, but would not have failed the project if it were 6 inches.

I think your right. The only thing I could find was in section 210-52(5) has a max of 12 inches below the countertop for special conditions.

Yeah, in kitchens.

For your application, you don't even need a receptacle at all. You could even mount it ON the countertop, with a tombstone housing. This is quite common in labs. Resist the urge to create code when you think that there simply must be one. There's nothing that applies to you, except for not face up.
