Re: recptacles

If you are refering to whether the receptacle should be mounted with ground pin up or ground pin down, there is no specification for either per NEC. Either way is compliant. If you mean the entire receptacle face up, this is allowed except for dwelling countertops or similar surfaces per 406.4(E).

Re: recptacles

I always install with the ground prong down so that that when a heavy cord assy is used and the plug starts to pull downward and out the last thing to be removed from the circuit is the ground prong.

Re: recptacles

You can put the ground up or down. I like the ground up. If you have it down then your Neutral & hot wire is on top. If your plug pulls out alittle then the N & the hot plong is expose. Something could slide down on it and cause a short circuit. If the ground pin was on top the item falling would hit the ground pin and fall off. No short curcuit. I have done it both ways.

Re: recptacles

We all agree no position.

If all the appliances have the ground positioned so that the cord is going down when installed, could you say that if the ground was up it would put undue stress on the cord?

Let us not forget neutral up or hot up. . .when the device is "sideways". All are possible orientations. And any other angle in the circle.

Thanks Roger. By the way those 4-in-one recptacles are a great application, and are less money than two recptacles in a two gang box, less labor as well.

We could have the in use covers made with a switch to turn off the power when opened. :D

Roger,I think those outlets should be outlawed. ;)

How the heck are we going to ague over up or down with those dangerous outlets? ;)

Roger,
Do you rough that 4 plug device just on a 4sq box box? What is the mud ring for that guy? It shows like a #8 screw hole on all 4 corners, same config as 8/32 screws on a 4 sq.

Re: recptacles

CCE, it will work on a 4"sq, single, or double gang ring. There is a trim ring that is not shown for the latter two methods.

These are made in 15 and 20 amp, surge supression, isolated ground, and hospital grade.

You can go to the Hubbell or Bryant web sites for more info on these devices. Leviton makes a version of this also.

Hey Bob, I wouldn't fret to much, no matter what we come up with, this topic will be back again, and I promise I want show this dangerous device again. :D
