Ok I have a strange question. I am working on a job with a split crew and we are having a disagreement about some things in code.

I can't find anything in the book but there is a 3rd year saying this is how he was taught.

Can you pull 4 #2 green copper in a pvc conduit through an attic to a sub panel about 40 feet away, and tape the hots and neutral change the green wire to black/red/white.

Sorry about the second Post, I forgot a few things in my post and Don't think I can edit it.
I am doing Low voltage and might end up with the finish work. The other electrician is behind and the owners are becoming unhappy.

Here are the details.
Single Floor Building with a short attic space across the building.
Main Panel 200 amp panel thats about full, a second panel was installed in an equipment room to feed an office and furnace without a/c.
The second panel is a 100 amp i think 20 circuit main lug with 6 circuits currently. Its a mix of 20 and 15 amp circuits.

The questions and disagreements were about how to feed the sub panel.

The current idea is up about 5 ft into the attic space, across around 30 feet and back down to the sub in 1 1/2" PVC.
The sub is going to be fed with 4 #2 copper.

Discussion 1.
You can't run PVC to feed the sub.

The Wire is sitting in bundles on the floor currently, Its 4 Green #2 wires.

Discussion #2
You can Tape the ends of the wire at both ends to change the color to black and white.

They had all that green on the truck in the first place because they could not use it for anything but EGC.
Then an opportunity arose to put it out of sight. :)

Of course you can use PVC to run a feeder.

What reason is being given for not doing so?

No, you can never remark green to another color. Very dangerous idea as well.

Thank you captain obvious. :D

I was looking for a bit more depth. :)

Isn't that how a lot of us got a lot of our NEC training?
I was always taught.......
It's in the code I just don't know where.........
;)

I didn't get a reason as to why no PVC in attic space, I tried to figure out anything that could apply. Heat, expansion, protection level, anything that could make it not legal and I got nothing. When the job started there was piles of bx on the floor. 14/2 12/2 12/3 and 10/3. I asked about what everything was for and the answer was it was on the truck.

Check and verify before inspection it is!

2002 NEC and prior, yes, for the hots green was allowed
2005 NEC color green is limited to the EGC
