Has anyone heard of Reed Business Date, out of Atlanta? Their guy called me today, saying they keep up with all the jobs awarded to GC's and you can be the first to call the GC, etc. Sounds good, but so does everything else people have tried to sell me. Websites are reedbusinessdata.com and smartprojectnews.com.

Anyone familiar with these guys?

Sounds like the same old story. You pay them big $$$$ to be undercut by some one else.

If I am subscribed and you are subscribed who's first me or you?

We don't make much of anything of real substance in this country anymore as far as I can tell. So the place now runs on total...... well you get the idea... They have this ad now on daytime talk radio. Warns you about how somebody may post unflattering things about you on facebook or twitter. Then wants to sell you a fix for it. I bet they are the ones posting unflattering things about people in order to drum up new customers....

sounds like pump and dump. Someone would buy a stock then hit the chat rooms talking it up when people started buying it would drive up the value then they would sell.

Working for a GC most of the calls I get from Subs I am unfamiliar with because they got the information from one of these sites seems to be late in the game. Either we have already bid the project or it was negotiated up front and the Electrical Contractor is already on board for the project.

Reed, Bluebook, McGraw Hill, Dodge. There's a whole slew of them that all have pretty much the same jobs in them. Mostly out of town GC's building chain stores / restaurants and government projects that legally have to be listed publicly.

If you are interested in doing medium sized commercial projects ($75 grand to $250 grand) these can be useful tools to subscribe to. I've subscribed to both McGraw Hill and Reed in the past and they have been easily worth the cost.

A word of warning.....the Reed salesmen are particularly persistent.
