Does anyone offer references when they bid a job?

Most folks need an electrician (or plumber, lawyer, etc.) about every other decade if they're lucky. They have no clue about how much a certain type of repair should cost. And they don't know you from Adam. Similarly, none of their friends know you from Adam either.

One thing that might help is providing references of past clients, and asking them if they would be willing to refer you if a future customer called you.

I ask customers if I can use them as a reference...when I get a new client, if they ask, I'll hand them a list...BUT...
Let's rememeber...who decides who is a worthy reference?
ME.
LOL
So much for that list, eh?

I don't do a lot of work which requires a reference. Most of my customers find me. But if I were doing a lot of service work for new customers, I would offer them a list of everyone I've worked for in the past few years. But as Celtic said, you wouldn't include an unhappy customer, would you? So the list doesn't offer much insurance.
