Hello all, I'm working on a project where we have been asked to specify a generator for an regenerative elevator from Otis. After doing some research it appears that the regenerative load, roughly 7kW in our case, could be an issue as this load is typically taken in by the building system and we will hardly have any other loads besides the elevator motor. Schindler appears to have this figured out as they can disable the regen during a normal power outage. Has anyone else run into this situation before? Thanks in advance.

Yes, same deal with solar PV or other generation equipment. You don't want to attempt to backfeed more power than the building is using because that energy has to dissipate somehow / somewhere.

yep, generators don't like negative power because as you said the electrical power somehow HAS to be converted. Noncontinuous 7kW is not much so shouldn't be that expensive to install a dynamic braking module ans resistors.

I heard back from Otis today and they recommend that the Gen2 Regenerative Elevator to be less than 60% of the total generator load.

I'm surprised that the Otis folks commented on it. See if the generator people agree or don't want any energy contribution above the "other" base generator load (minimum load used).
