Does anyone have a NEC interpretation of module regressed LED? Is this considered a recess fixture or a surface mount? It is supported by the ceiling drywall not a junction box. How it is defined will interpret its install requirements in a fire rated assembly.

Regressed LED lights are made in both trims for recessed cans and as canless recessed trims that mount directly in drywall. There are also non-regressed versions of the canless lights. It's not the regressed characteristic that's important. It's the canless characteristic that's you are really asking about. As far as I know, all canless lights are listed for installation in drywall without a j-box mount and are recessed fixtures. You would probably need to read the listing to be sure. The word regressed does not appear in the NEC.
