Hi I have a question about a job I'm working on.
I am doing a small office build out and I have to move a "fire lite" pull station
And the building is occupied with other tennants. My question is after I call it in how do I dismantle and move the pull station without the nacs going off

Thanks,mick

By calling the fire alarm contractor;)

It depends, you have to disconnect the NACS or the zone/point, and in doing so you must then reenable it and test that device and all affected devices, then 10% of unaffective devices. If you don't know how to open it now, you probably shouldnt do it.

Well in the past I have just killed the power and disconnected the batteries
But this is an older system and I'm afraid if I disconnect the bats I may have
to re-program which I have not done since school.we
normally hire a fire alarm contractor but this job is so small they want
Me to do it. I just thought someone might have a trick or 2
I know I can do it "live" by just not letting the wires touch
each other but as I said this is partially occupied
And I don't need any fite drills

What model FireLite? I can possibly get you the manuals. The relocate should definitely be done with the panel "dead".

Qualifier. I understand fire alarm as an electrician, but I do have a Nicet level two fire alarm cert. That said. Isn't everyone here over complicating the issue. If it is a standard addressable fire alarm system (if not completely different), call the monitoring company to inform them you are performing work and they will be receiving a trouble. Run new conduit pull new 18/2 FPLR to the point where you will splice. Next the order is depending on the preference, but remove the splices to the wire extended to the existing pull station, and disconnect the pull station. At this time you will get a trouble, missing device. If you short the wires together you will get a shorted trouble. Reconnect the device, and the splice, and viola the trouble should clear itself and you are done. Some systems require a manual reset. If the system is conventional then you have to do as you indicated. Make sure the wires do no short together or you will get an alarm. Otherwise the process should be similar in that you get a trouble which resets when cleared.

What is the issueor what am I missing?

Thanks strathead I removed a A/V and it had dip switches. I
have not yet been to f.a.c.p. don't some of these devices have
Addressable and non addressable capabilities?

Not that I know of. If you are trying to figure out whether it is an addressable panel, there are a few easy ways. First, if there was only one pair of wires coming to the pull station and no resistor, then it is addressable period. Or if you just look at the FACP wiring. If you are not familiar enough with Fire alarm to tell this way, then I recommend you have someone else come in and do the relocate.

Regarding your other question about disconnecting the NACS, why? First off, you don't want to disable the system. What if that was the exact moment a fire started? Second, that is going to cause a similar trouble to disconnecting the pull station. Just do what I described above. Again, with an addressable system, you are not going to set off an alarm unless there is another problem with the system. Just make sure you notify the monitoring company and/or the fire department.

If this is a Simplex TrueAlert addressable notification appliance, do be careful. These notification appliances are connected to 24VDC power and to the SLC loop.

Thanks Strathead as I said they tought us fire alarm way back in apprenticeship
School and that was a long time ago and if you don't work on it all
The time you tend to forget I do have remedial knowledge of the wiring
Methods and can tell the difference between a class A and class B system
(Whatever that's worth) . But when I see initiating devices (pull stations, smokes
Etc.) I usually try and steer clear.I will implement your suggestions and
Get back to you. Thanks
