I have a job right now where the customer would like to add 2 ceiling lights, one at the bottom of the first floor stair landing and another at the other end of the second floor hall (landing at bottom of stairs between second and third floor).
The Bad:
It is a 100+ year old home & they would like the new lights to work off the existing stair 3-Way, the load of which comes from the 3-Way switch on the inside hall wall at the top of the stairs between the first and second floor.
The possible good:
The house has balloon frame construction and the two lights they want to add are pretty much at the same location on the first and second floor, so I am thinking that I may be able to minimize visible damage if I am able to snake from the existing light (load side of S3) on the second floor down the outside side wall of the house to the basement (In the best case scenario this is the only place I will have to open the ceiling to cross joists which run front to back in this house), across the basement and up the bay in the outside front wall (the wall that lines up with the stair landings/ light locations). The new lights will be about 2 feet from the outside wall I will be snaking and seeing that this is balloon frame construction I am hoping that I can snag the wire/snake/string from the 4" holes I cut in the ceiling on the landings..........keyword.....hoping
Ok, so with a job like this with so many variables, you think T&M is the safest bet to CYA?
I already gave them a flat price for a bathroom remodel and got the job. I was there doing the demo yesterday and the HO asked me about adding the lights. FWIW, HO is well aware of the PITA factor in regards to owning the 100+ yr. old home.
Thanks!
