Good day gentlemen. I have a customer who is requesting a remote control outside light fixture. He is looking for a key chain style remote (like a car alarm remote). All the ones I have seen are for "plug in" style. I need something that can either control an ice cube relay, or can be hardwired on a 4 sq. box. Anyone heard of such a thing?

thanks

Gerry

I believe Sears sells components to do what you are requesting as part of their garage door opener equipment. The last one that I bought had two additional buttons on the remote for turning on lights in the house. I was not interested in doing that so have not looked into it, but it may be worth a trip to Sears.

Linear Alert, model DXR-701 receivers, and cannot remember the number of the pendant that goes with it, but they are a matched pair, about $70 bucks. They work great for this type of stuff, have a form c contact that you can use to control the coil of another relay or contactor. I set one up at my house with a motor starter to control a pressure increase pump for our city water supply, which on my street is fairly low to begin with. We hang the pendants on the towel bars next to the showers, you just push the button to energize the pump system, and click again to shut it off.

Does he intend to operate the light fixture from outside or inside the house?

He would like to keep the remote it in his car so when he pulls into his driveway, he or his wife could turn on the outside light from his vehicle.

Many vehicles have a homelink transmitter built into the sunvisor or the headliner console to operate garage door openers, electric gates, and lighting, even door locks. All you need is the appropriate reciever and component device.

Lutron has a much cheaper version than Radio Ra. It is called AuroRA. They look like the standard switch have a repeater , a desk top unit, 6 switches that work with 3 ways (AuoRA switch and a standard 3 way), and a car visor. Pricey at $500 or more-- I got one at $450 but that was a bargain price from the Lutron Rep.

I don't think you would be required to buy the visor if your car has homelink already installed... not that it would save alot of money... but to be honest, if somebody really wants something I doubt price is an issue... thanks for the heads up on the AuroRA...

Unfortunately the system is a kit and the visor comes with it. You can buy extra visor, I believe up to 10 and I am not sure the car visor will work. Nowhere in the literature does it say you can use the car visor.
