My son just bought an older house and there was a lighted fan unit in the living room. A switch on the wall controlled the fan and a remote control turned the light on/off regardless of whether the wall switch for the fan was on.

We went to replace it with an LED light and the Led light was on all the time regardless of the switch, which means the wires in the ceiling have constant power. So as best we can figure .. the switch on the wall which controls a switched outlet also has a sender component in the outlet which told the old fan unit to turn on the fan.

So what I am looking for is if there is such a component we can put in a switched wall outlet to send a signal to the ceiling to tell it to turn the light on or off.
