The code book does not specify if the remote start circuits on an emergency generator installation should be isolated from any other circuits. Many manufacturers do however require that the remote starts be in a seperate conduit from the generator load wires, battery charger and block heater circuit, etc...In many installations we do not see the manufacturers requirements and the engineers have not included the extra conduit for the remote starts. Any comments or recommendations on this matter are appreciated.

With the constantly changing designs of these generator systems, I always discuss the installation with the manufacturer prior to beginning work. I have found that most installations need a raceway system for the power conductors, a raceway for the battery charger, block heater, alternator heater, fuel tank heater, etc., and a third raceway for the start circuit(s) and remote annunciator. So even though these items may not be NEC requirements, I have found that the manufacturers requirments must prevail here. In the case of bidding a job, I have to ask these questions early on!
