Unexpectedly received panelboards with too many 2 pole "common trip" breakers. Ratings are correct, would like to remove handle ties and internal common trip mechanism and use as single pole breakers. Seems simple but due to breaker lead times now, I've never had to do this on other than miniature breakers.

Is this legit? Will it void the UL listing of the breaker etc? Thanks in advance

I very much doubt that you can access and modify the internal common trip mechanism without damaging or at losing the certification of the breakers.
If the breaker cases are held together by screws you might be able to get away with it. If you have to pry them open, no way.

I agree with Goldie the internal trip mechanism is not going to be removable. Even if you could in doing so you're voiding the warranty and altering the listing of the breaker.

Find pairs of circuits that go to roughly the same place and wire them as multiwire branch circuits. Those are required to be handle tied now. Or is this a 3 phase panel?
