We have an upcoming job to relocate a generator and are trying to determine what will be required. The existing generator has two breakers build in that serve two ATS. As part of the relocation, there will be a rental generator provided for 1 week while the existing generator, ductbank and feeders are reworked. The rental generator will be connected directly to the ATS with temporary cables. Now for the question, the rental generator only has one output breaker (not two like the existing) so how should the two ATS be connected? There seems to be two sides emerging as we have discussed this: Side 1, connect the rental generators to the existing ATS with cables sized to match the existing feeders. Side 2, in addition to the above, install two fused disconnects (or enclosed circuit breakers) that match the existing generator breakers rating and then connected them to the ATS. Thoughts?
