Scenario:
PVC Coated MC Cable is allowed to be installed in concrete. Where it is stubbed up in the walls the MC Cable is broken close to the floor.

1. Is there a repair kit for this situation?
2. Should a box be installed at this location?
3. Where the MC Cable conductors are not damaged, can a MC Connector be installed with a rigid coupling and connect to a flex fitting and raceway that extends to an outlet box?

I may get publically flogged but I have approved #3 before once the MC emerged up into the wall......

I appreciate your honesty. Maybe the code needs to be clarified.

Some code items to consider:

Section 330.12(1) MC Cable can't be subject to physical damage.
Section 110.3(B) Is it being used per its listing?
Section 300.15 Box requirements
Section 300.18 Raceway needs to be completed prior to installing conductors.

I know the code sections...Thanks....but notice I said "Approved". What are you going to do rip it all out and re pull the pvc coated MC or put another box in the wall that must be accessible?

I don't have a problem with what Greg said, though I may have to see it before I approve it.:)

The one that always irks me is when I point it out and then come back a couple of days later and see two or three wraps of 3M tape as the repair.

Food for thought: A few years later, I have conductors in a raceway at an outlet. I want to add or replace conductors and try to pull on those wires that are adapted to MC Cable in a concealed wall. Then I'd wished an accessible box were installed at the transition from cable to raceway.

Forgetting about the customer and if they are getting everything they paid for in my opinion the only NEC compliant option is 3.

To me this was excessively poor judgment by the contractor and they pretty much deserve all the trouble that comes from it.

Oh yeah, I would trust the cement guys not to damage the MC.
