I'm from mass, can u tell me your interpretation of the 2017 code regarding replacing an existing 3 wire
outlet. Do I need to install an AFCI breaker? How about a switch? And finally how about if I just replace a light fixture.
Also how about if I'm replacing 2 wire outlets with new 2 wire outlets? AFCI protected?
Thank You

Light fixture or switch device swap out...no Code required AFCI protection.

Receptacle device swap out...AFCI protection needed according to 406.4(D)(4)...except they missed hotels and motels under the new 210.12(C)...

I keep having this vision of a device manufacturer's accountant sitting back in his easy chair with a cigar & glass of cognac, evil grin on his face.....
