When replacing light fixtures in homes wired before 1985 is it a code requirement to only use wire rated at least 90 degree rated conductors? Or is this a UL requirement? Either way this would mean a rewire? Also if this is 2 wire romex a ground wire would need to be installed? Can someone give me code sections on these please. Thanks

If the fixture requires 90 degree conductors and you only have 60 degree conductors you legally cannot hang it. When faced with this situation I would offer a rewire of the lighting outlet with 90 degree cable or if the owner doesn't want to spend the money then they can get someone else to do it.

Yeah, Thanks guys. I thought it was a listed and labeling thing. In some cases I could go up in the accessible attic and spot a JB and splice from the JB to the light fixture. Easier than fishing new cable from switch to fixture. This was a 1978 single wide mobile home,no access in ceiling. They will probably get a handy man to hang them.
