Replacing service end box in NYC

A service end box with copper detail will need to be replaced. The service end box has 10 taps per phase on the line side and about 20 taps per phase on the load side. All taps are 500KCMILS.

Replacing the service end box means all the service conductors will need to be disconnected and then reconnected once the new service end box is installed. Disconnecting power to the whole building is a BIG deal. It's a mixed use commercial building + residential building.

What are my options here? I heard that I can do a temporary service, but what does that involve? Does this mean I need a temporary service end box at a different location? is there any other way to do it without a temporary service? is it better to do it via a temp generator instead of a temp service? Is it even legal to temporarily connect Con-Ed wiring with polaris connectors and bypass the service end box?

Is there some way that you can backfeed the downstream SWBD with a temp gen in the street with a fused switch sized for the load (done during off hours), then the service end feed box can be de-energized by Con-ed, isolated by the main from the backfeed, you can replace the service end box and undo the temp.

Unfortunately I don't think there is because there is no switchboard downstream of service end box. It is all just standalone service switches.

I was thinking of getting a temp switchboard to refeed everything, but that will require a bunch of temp wires to refeed everything. Is there any insulation out there that I can use that can be exposed and lay on the floor without any supports?
