Re: Replacing service panel help

I'll be danged if I won't take that last post as a slam. :D

Now as for my attitude I'll spell it out for you inspectors.

I install to code.

You enforce the code.

Simple.

I screw up you call me on it.

You make code up as you go or try to enforce things the way you like to see it done you should not be inspecting.

Augie I am not surprised you would fall on the side of the inspector with questionable enforcement methods as you have admitted to them as well.
That still does not make it right. There was a time that "that's the way I want it" or "I want it done this way" would be acceptable. Fortunately for electricians that play by the rules this is mostly over. There are still some holdouts however but there are bad apples in every bunch.

Re: Replacing service panel help

Triphase,

I cannot answer for Iwire, but as I read your post about what you "allow", the hair stood up on the back of my neck. Sometime AHJ's have a Holyer than Thou attitude that rubs me raw.

Not my fight. Just my $.02

Re: Replacing service panel help

I am still here absorbing and lovin it all. Hey george. The bar hanger is OK but what color are those two conductors landed in neutral bars ? I just could not tell humor me. IF I HAD KNOWN USING THE TERM ALLOWING IT WOULD HAVE CAUSED ALL OF THIS WELL............I guess I will get some of My pictures posted tonight just for the heck of it.Also, I don't have an attitude sometimes just wrong choice of words when I write. At work I have a wonderful City Attorney that reviews all of our letters just wasn't around that day. Sorry!

Re: Replacing service panel help

Nah! Just a joke. I'm used to talkin to people with eye contact, kinda like say'in "I'll let ya do it" The electrician and I would look at each other and just grin and go on. I usually don't red tag jobs when the electrician is on the job, they just fix it and see ya on the next one.

Re: Replacing service panel help

PUTZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now that is funny! I have not been called that in a long time. Its usually "Son of a #!%#?"

Re: Replacing service panel help

I have a follow up question regarding the 12X12 splice box.

I personally prefer to have this, but I am about to embark on replacing a 60 amp fuse panel that have wires coming from below and above. These wires are the old fabric/rubber insulated ones that are very delicate not to mention baked from the 35 amp fuses on 14 gauge wire. It may be necessary to put one above, and one below. Would this be overkill?

Re: Replacing service panel help

Would it be overkill to snip off a bit of the old wire, and crumple it up infront of the customer, and ask if he wants you to re-wire a couple of circuits for him/her?

Re: Replacing service panel help

LOL

I didnt even want to do this replacement. This house has some terrible issues. If you put a fuse in on one of the circuits it pops a breaker in the basement new breaker panel. Too many cooks in the kitchen here. Looks like someone probably connected a new circuit with an old one. The house was built in 30's or around then. They went through replastered walls fresh painted walls with fine deco trimwork to boot, then asked me if I could re-wire house. They are close friends of mine and I got to tell you, I dont know if I would even want that job. Finished basement ceilings, finished attic essentially making it a 4 story house... yikes!
