Could someone please help me clarify the required clearance between a 1200A main disconnect and a generator. Article 110.26(A)(1)(Condition 3) states
that 48? is required between ?exposed live parts on both sides of the working space?. Article 110.26(A)(1)(Condition 2) states 42? between ?exposed live parts on one side of the working space and grounded parts on the other side of the working space. Concrete, brick, or tile walls shall be considered as grounded?. Does the 42 inch clearance apply since it's a 1200A main disconnect and a generator? I guess what I'm asking if the generator is considered a "grounded part". (sorry if that's a dumb question)....

I believe that the clearances mandated by other NFPA documents may be greater than any clearance in the NEC. Find the fuel type of the generator and look into that NFPA doc(i.e. L.P.) and I bet you find a greater clearance requirement than NEC.

Also where is this install, indoors or out?
