Hello,

Are there code requirements for receptacles in hallways/foyers for a commercial office space? 210.52 specifies Dwelling units, but I cannot find anything mandating "Other than."

For context, I am the facilities electrician for a commercial building in Boston, MA. We are remodeling to close off tenant space by adding a door to an existing hallway wall. Do I need to add power to either side of the opening within a certain distance?

Also, is a permit required for adding low voltage card access to the door? (probably, but it can't hurt to ask!)

For non dwelling units there are no receptacles required in hallways or offices. But if they are installed, then they count on a load calculation, whereas in a dwelling unit they are included in sq ft load. Your receptacles mat need to be TR.
I do not know about your permit question

Not code but as a general rule of thumb I go with a receptacle spaced at max.20’ from any break in wall space or 40’ between recepts which can alternate from one side of hall to other. This works with most vacuum cleaners.
