Does the NEC require identification of emergency receptacles? I have a Health Care facility, which is one of those clinic/outpatient things - not a hospital, limited care facility or anything like that. I cannot find any requirement in NEC 517 to require identification of emergency receptacles for this type of facility ("Other Health Care Facilities" as described in 517.45). 700.10(A) deals with boxes and enclosures, apparently not the devices themselves.

Am I missing something?

When the provision of emergency power is required, there should be a provision for identifying which receptacles provide that resource, although the coding used for identification may not be standardized.
But when you have an optional standby system, not required, it is a very good idea to identify the receptacles even if it is not required that you do so.

Also, there may be codes other than the NEC which affect that.

PS: One way to identify a box containing a receptacle is to put a uniquely colored or otherwise marked device into it. :)

Full disclosure - the project is complete, and our specification did not specifically require identification of emergency circuits as such - I thought it was in the NEC. However, in my research through the sections mentioned, I cannot find it to be a requirement. There are some near misses....517 requires emergency receptacle identification for hospitals and limited care facilities, which this isn't either.
