Hey guys,
I was wondering if anyone happens to know what the licensing requirements are for residential work in Crawfordsville, IN? If not, any suggestions on who to contact? I'm currently a fourth-year apprentice, and I'm curious as to what all is involved in going into business, and doing it legally:smile:.
Thanks, all!

The city of Crawfordsville does have licensing requirements.

50.20 APPLICATION FOR AND TYPES OF LICENSES.

(A) Any person, except as set forth in ' 50.26, desiring to engage in the business of stringing electrical wires and installing associated electrical equipment for a fee shall first apply to the manager for authorization to engage in the business. No such person or employer of him or such firm or corporation shall engage in such work without first passing a written standard examination under supervision of the Utility. Upon the applicant showing that such person engaging in such work has satisfactorily passed such examination, the Manager shall issue permission for the Clerk Treasurer to issue the applicant a license authorizing him to engage in such business. There shall be two types of such license.

(A) A Class A license shall entitle the holder thereof to install or repair, or contract to install or repair, electrical wiring and related equipment used within or on buildings or appurtenances thereto, for the distribution of electrical energy within or on the buildings or appurtenances, subject to the provisions of the Electric Code of the city and the National Electrical Code for the year 1984.

(B) A Class B limited license shall entitle the owner thereof, to install and repair, or contract to install and repair, electrical wiring from the service entrance or other suitable disconnecting device to and on electrical equipment furnished and installed by the holder of a Class B limited license and does not entitle the holder thereof to do other electrical wiring in the building where such equipment is installed. Permits for Class B limited license shall be limited to wiring of branch circuits of 20 amperes or less.
You may want to contact Fred Davis (765) 362-1900 for details since the above is so far out of date. The State of Indiana uses the Indiana Electrical Code which is the 2005 Edition of the NEC with the Indiana amendments. The 2008 Edition will be adopted late this year or early next year. :)
