I just received "code" comments on a fast food building. They were done by one of these companies that do code reviews for a city.

Many of their comments are generalities and such to add bulk to the review. For example, "all disconnect switches must be located within accessible heights." Well woop de do, I never would have known!

The following are two that make me wonder where did they come from. I sure don't remember such being in the code.

Anybody have comments?

"All electrical boxes, outlets, and devices located adjacent to the doors shall be installed no more than 18" from the rough opening.

All dedicated outlets (outlets that are an individual circuit, not shared with any other outlets) must be labeled with the device intended to be served."

Thanks,

RC

I am not aware of either of those comments being an NEC requirement.

Sounds like to me they are just trying to fill the report with fluff to make it appear more legit.

"All electrical boxes, outlets, and devices located adjacent to the doors shall be installed no more than 18" from the rough opening.

I could see this being an ADA reference. According to ADA you should have open wall space 18" from the "pull" side of a door and 12" from the "push" side.

But ... this tends not to be an issue in electrical rooms ... and should be called out in the Contract Documents. It's not NEC.

Good luck!

I've seen cases where "for hire" reviewers reviewer to their company's standards rather than to adopted codes. Not a pleasant thing. At one time I'd write a response letter citing Code. Now I'm more apt to complain to the Building Official.

that just doesnt make any sense to me at all, does that mean that any wall that has a door on it, all of the recepts and switches have to be within 18" inches of its rough opening?
